Creator of the Stars of Night
Luke 1:68–79 · Isaiah 9:2, 6–7 · with Creator of the Stars of Night
Creator of the Stars of Night — “Conditor alme siderum,” a Latin Advent hymn of the 9th century, in John Mason Neale’s English (1851). Its roots: Zacharias’s song of the dayspring from on high (Luke 1:78–79), and Isaiah’s great light seen by them that walked in darkness (Isaiah 9:2).
The Church’s Advent hymn to the coming Light, over the two songs of His promise: Zacharias blessing God for the dayspring from on high, and Isaiah watching light rise on a people in darkness — for unto us a child is born.

Luke 1:68–79
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Isaiah 9:2
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
Isaiah 9:6–7
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
